So much easier to use than the traditional method. Everything I need is all together.. I don't need to find all the pieces, the putty knife is built in. Plus the sealed tube keeps the spackle more usable and longer. I've already recommended it to my kids to use in their apartments.

Neither fast not final

Tried to use this to smooth out a textured finish wall. After 4 days it is still soft and rubbery. I purchased based on the label...Fast. Actually just the opposite. After removal and re-application with something else, what was once a quick spackle and repaint has turned into a week long ordeal. Should have purchased the normal DAP spackle. Never have had an issue with it.

I tried this product on a couple of small repairs to a bathroom wall, the built in putty knife wasn't the greatest but since the product is so smooth it made up for it. The light consistency of the spackle was a dream to use and dried super quick, I also like that after some practice i did not need to sand my repair another great feature. I was painting in less than 30 minutes which was awesome. On a side note after 15 days and bathroom humidity you can not notice the repaired areas I'm thrilled.

I recently renovated my basement and had buckets upon buckets of joint compound for the job. Everything was done and a few months later, my son managed to get a gouge in the drywall with one of his toys! The DAP Fast 'N Final was the perfect solution - I didn't have to get another bucket of compound, drag out the spackle knives, apply several coats and sand in between. This was one step - everything you need in one light tube with the tool and even a cap built in - perfect repair!

As indicated on the product package label and supporting product literature: One application is usually sufficient for small repairs. For repairs deeper than 1/8", apply two or more layers allowing spackling to dry between applications. May be painted within minutes with a latex paint. Please follow paint manufacturer's instructions for application. If sanding is desired, or if an oil-based paint is to be used, allow to dry thoroughly (approximately 24 hours). Based on your commentary: "I've been waiting over 24 hours and product is still soft." would tend to indicate that a deep fill has been made, there is moisture present at the site of application (ambient humidity or dampness in the substrate) and/or lower application temperature conditions present. As this is latex (water based) formula, the sole drying mechanism is the evaporation for water. All of the previously mentioned factors will increase the dry time of this formula. Under these types of conditions, all that it typically required is to allow for additional dry time. The drying rate can be accelerated by increasing the temperature and air circulation in the application area. At your convenience, please contact DAP's Technical Customer Service Department at 888-327-8477 so that we can obtain some additional information regarding your experience.

Fills a Much Needed Gap for Drywall Repair!

I don't know why there's so many negative reviews as I really love this product becasue it works really well for what it's intended for - finishing and final repair coats on drywall before final light sanding and painting. I find this product saves me from having to deal with large amounts of sanding dust that is generated when you are forced to use other heavier spackling compounds or drywall compounds, especially in situations where it's unnecessary and all you're trying to do is fix a small imperfection. This will save you time and energy if used in the right way. It's also possible that the people that left negative reviews are perhaps not closing the lid tightly enough and letting the product dry out or something? Like honestly, this works as intended and fills a much needed gap in the products I use for drywall repair.

We just moved into an older home and started renovating. Of course there are nail holes galore and a small dip in the ceiling where it looks like someone hit a broom handle into it. Thats what I used this stuff for. Its a great formula. It had to hang and dry without dripping and it did that! If filled and smoothed nail holes with ease. Not a single clog. This tube will last a long time, and I will be able to come back with a clean tip because of the cover.

Rubbery & Not Sandable

Directions say that you don't NEED to sand it but it doesn't say that you CAN'T sand it. Like others I put it on a bit heavier thinking I could sand it down but after several days of 60 degree days in a dry location it is soft and rubbery... Almost like dry rubber cement. I will now have to figure out how to remove it all and go back to a conventional spackle. I guess this is what I get for trying a "shortcut" without testing it first.

I am so surprised to see all the negative reviews on this product. I have used this for years and love it. I was out and afraid I wouldn't be able to find it and I was so happy that DAP still makes this. I have never had a problem with it drying or sanding it. I've used it for nail holes, small cracks, and big cracks, places where trim joints don't match perfectly and I don't know what all. Everything really, it's great!

This product went on nice, but took hours to dry! Despite the container saying it was paint ready in 30 minutes, after 6 hours it still wasn't dry. When sanding (6 hours later) it crumbled off my wall causing me to start over. DO NOT RECOMMEND

Have read many of the reviews, Fast and Final would be for small jobs. Correct ambient temperature. Though I do use it for large jobs, drying time depends on how much product you use. No matter my job, I always wait 24hrs.I also prime anyway, looks much better. I've used Dap products for years. I'm retired and do not work for them.

Not a bad product, easy to use being lightweight, however if you do want a quality finished product you will definitely have to sand some. However, not as much as with the products! It can be difficult to use, as it can drop from the spatula since it is very lightweight. Overall good product though!

I really loved using the DAP Fast and Final speckling. I had a few surfaces in my kitchen as well as my bathroom that needed to be sealed. I think this is a great product for small areas like around the sink and tub. It dries fast and is not chunky. Definitely something I will use often.

Leaves a smooth, clean finish. Great for around the house patch jobs. Enjoyed using it so much I walked all around my house looking for holes and places that needed fixed. Definitely will buy more for future. My kids like rearranging their rooms and need to fix holes often.

Worked great to fill hole made by large drywall two large drywall anchors. Went on smoothly, dried quickly and sanded well. Painted well too. I don't usually bother writing reviews but wanted to provide balance to the negative reviews which I find puzzling.

This will NEVER crack!

I run a property management maintenance shop with well over 300 units. I am reviewing this in a professional environment. I ordered this by accident about 10 years ago. Initially, we didn't understand what this does, and when to use it. The crew didn't like it because it has some sort of glue or admix in it. It's kind of a mix between spackle and caulking. It's a bit weird to trowel, but you just need to wipe it and leave it alone. You can paint with latex paint immediately., with no primer needed. It does not leave a "holiday." Think of how that will change the prep time on small jobs!
This product EXCELS at exterior wood trim. It will never crack. It dries to a strong, flexible semi-solid. It not brittle, so it flexes when the wood expands and contracrts. It is sandable after at least 24 hours. All of the bad reviews about this being sticky, or not sandable are because they didn't wait. You have to wait. It's worth the learning curve. I can verify this with 10 years of experience. I see these buildings every day. Still no cracks.

Not sure about all the negative reviews. This is meant for small holes. Think, picture nails. Works well on small holes and cracks. Dries fast. Easy to use. Does the job. If you are looking for bigger repairs, this is isn't the product.

Overall this was a good product, the built in applicator was very convenient. It took a little practice on how hard to squeeze, but after a couple of attempts I got the hang of it. Only thing that is missing is a built in sander.

Fast 'N Final is designed and marketed for minor cosmetic/surface repairs, such as dents/dings in wallboard, not large format repairs. Fast 'N Final is specifically formulated as a low moisture/low density spackling compound for faster dry time/paint time. Fast 'N Final does not dry with the same hardness as traditional heavyweight spackling compounds. As this is a water-based (acrylic-latex) formula, the sole drying mechanism is the evaporation of water. Dry time can be significantly impacted by cool or humid application conditions, moisture in the application surfaces or by thick (deep) applications of the patch. The most common cause for slow dry time/development of full hardness, results from application in excess of the recommended fill depth. As indicated on the product package label and supporting product literature: "One application is usually sufficient for small repairs. For repairs deeper than 1/8”, apply two or more layers allowing spackling to dry between applications. Full dry (full hardness) will occur once all of the water contained in the formula has evaporated. Because you did not provide any details regarding your experience, such as the application surface, width/depth of fill, temperature, humidly or application technique, it is difficult to provide you with a more detailed reply in this format.
